Chinese Championships Day 6: Zhang Yufei Wins 50 Fly; Flu Causes Number of Scratches

Chinese Championships Day 6: Zhang Yufei Wins 50 Fly; Flu Causes Number of Scratches

The Chinese Swimming Championships continued with the Day 6 finals. Several swimmers scratched races because of illness, but there were plenty of fast performances.

The session kicked off with the men’s 100 butterfly. Sun Jiajun won the gold medal in the event with a swim of 51.75. Chen Juner took the silver at 52.02, while the bronze went to Wang Changhao in 52.28.

The women’s 200 backstroke kicked off the women’s events. Sun Mingxia won the race in 2:11.55 to earn the gold medal. Wang Xinyi took the silver in 2:11.75 and Zhang Jingyan took the bronze in 2:12.65.

In the men’s 50 free, Pang Zhangle claimed the title with a swim of 22.06. Yu Hexin took second in 22.24 and Wang Changhao took the bronze, just a few minutes after taking the bronze in the 100 butterfly.

In the women’s 50 butterfly, Olympic gold medalist Zhang Yufei claimed the gold medal. She got to the wall in 25.47. Yu Yiting took the silver in 26.07 and Wang Yichun earned the bronze in 26.16.

In the women’s 800 free, Yang Peiqi won the event in 8:30.66. Ma Yonghui took the silver in 8:31.25, while Mao Yiahan was third in 8:32.67.

Li Bingjie scratched the 800 free with an illness. Peng Xuwei pulled out of the 200 backstroke also for an illness.

The flu was prevalent at the Chinese Championships this week. Wang Shun Weibo posted that had had to withdraw because of a physical reason.

“Everyone please take care of your health too!” he posted. “See you in next competition.”
