Chinese Championships: Chen Juner Breaks World Junior Record; Li Bingjie Breaks Two More Records
One day after breaking the world record in the 400 freestyle, China’s Li Bingjie was on the podium again at the 2022 Chinese National Championships.
On Friday, Li won the 1500 free in 15:41.80, breaking the Chinese national record and Asian continental record to hold off silver medalist Zhang Ke (15:52.30).
Li also broke the Chinese national record in the 200 freestyle to touch the wall in 1:51.25, finishing just ahead of Yang Junxuan (1:51.61). Li’s time made her the fifth fastest performer in history in the short-course event behind Hong Kong’s Siobhan Haughey (1:50.31), Sweden’s Sarah Sjostrom (1:50.43), Italy’s Federica Pellegrini (1:51.17) and Hungary’s Katinka Hosszu (1:51.18).
In the men’s 200 butterfly, Chen Juner won in 1:49.61 to break the Chinese national record and world junior record, holding off Xu Fang (1:52.52). The 18-year-old broke the mark set by Eddie Wang (1:49.89) during the 2020 International Swimming League (ISL) season.
Meanwhile, Tang Qianting won the women’s 100 breaststroke in 1:03.15, breaking the Chinese national record and Asian continental record in the process. She held off Yang Chang (1:05.18) in the event. Her first 50 split of 29.65 also broke the 50 breast national record.
In the men’s 200 IM, Qin Haiyang won the race in 1:54.51 to finish ahead of Tao Guannan (1:55.88). Qin went on to win the 50 breaststroke as well, breaking the Chinese national record with a swim of 26.12, holing off Yan Zibei (26.16). In the men’s 1500 free, Fei Liwei won in 14:35.50 to hold off Tang Haoyang (15:31.98).
In the women’s 400 IM, Yu Yiting won in 4:29.72, ahead of Ge Chutong (4:31.10).
In the men’s 50 back, Wang Gukailai touched the wall in 23.65, ahead of Lin Tao (24.07).
In the women’s 100 backstroke, Peng Xuwei won in 57.01, finishing ahead of Wan Letian (57.05) in an extremely close race.
In the women’s 100 butterfly, Zhang Yufei won in 25.22 ahead of Wang Wichun (25.46).
In the men’s 100 free, Pan Zhanle won in 46.27, ahead of He Junyi (46.77) and Wang Haoui (46.78).
