Charlie Hawke, Tim Korstanje Lead Alabama Sweep of Missouri

Charlie Hawke and Tim Korstanje saw Alabama’s men’s team to a decisive 180-118 win over Missouri in SEC action on Friday. The Alabama women’s team rolled to a 212-88 victory.

Hawke won each time he swam Friday. He clocked in at 9:19.23 to claim the 1,000 freestyle. His time of 4:27.59 was tops in the 500 free by more than seven seconds.

Hawke anchored the men’s 400 free relay in 43.26. The foursome of Kaique Alves, Korstanje and Bernardo Almeida went 2:55.72.

Korstanje anchored the winning 200 medley relay, which went 1:26.98. Tommy Hagar, Alves and De Almeida rounded out that foursome. Korstanje won the 50 free in 20.09 and the 100 fly in 47.53, the latter with De Almedia second in 47.79. Alves won the 100 free in 43.48 and the 200 free in 1:35.82. Hagar won the 200 backstroke (1:44.81) and 200 individual medley (1:49.49) after finishing second in the 200 butterfly. Michael Deans won the 200 breaststroke and was second to teammate Trey Shelis in the 100.

Missouri picked up a win in the 100 back thanks to Grant Bochenski’s time of 48.47. He was second in the 100 free. Jan Zubik edged Hagar by .16 seconds in a great race to take the 200 fly in 1:47.72. Collier Dyer swept both diving events.

The Alabama women dominated thanks to six 1-2-3 podium sweeps. The sprint contingent supplied two of them.

Cadence Vincent won the 50 free in 22.72, with teammates Kailyn Winter and Jada Surrell-Norwood following. The 100 free went to Jada Scott in 49.05, followed by Diana Petkova and Surrell-Norwood.

Petkova finished third in a sweep of the 100 breast, Avery Wiseman winning in 1:01.44. Wiseman also won the 200 breast in 2:14.06.

Scott won the 100 back in 54.24, leading Gaby Van Brunt and Ella Menear to the wall. Laurel Blase got the win in the 200 back in 1:59.55, with Menear second. Mackenzie Brandt swept the 500 and 1,000 free races. Lockett Bowley won a great race in the 200 free, rallying on the final 50 to win in 1:50.60 and deny Missouri’s Peyton Drexler. Ryleigh Rogers scored 280.73 on 1-meter to pull out a win.

The Tide rolled in both relays. Scott, Wiseman, Winter and Vincent went 1:38.09 to dominate the 200 medley. Vincent, Petkova, Van Brunt and Winter won the 400 free by nearly six seconds in 3:21.77.

Taylor Williams supplied Missouri’s only swimming wins of the day. She went 2:01.08 to deny Bowley in the 200 fly and edged Van Brunt by a tenth in the 100 fly, winning in 54.07. Drexler was also second in the 200 IM. Kayla Wilson won 3-meter diving in 331.73. Kamryn Wong was second in both diving events.
