Cesar Cielo Joins Inside With Brett Hawke Podcast to Chat Olympics, World Records, David Popovici…And More

Together, Cesar Cielo and Brett Hawke achieved great success. There were NCAA titles. There were world championships. There were world records. And, most significantly, there was an Olympic crown. Now, the men come together for a two-plus hour interview/conversation on the Inside with Brett Hawke Podcast.

A two-time Australian Olympian, Hawke has built his podcast into must-watch video, and he has long wanted to get Cielo on the show to discuss a variety of topics. With Romanian youngster David Popovici recently breaking Cielo’s world record in the 100-meter freestyle, late summer made for the perfect time to have a wide-ranging discussion about the past, present, and future.

Moving into the coaching world after the conclusion of his athletic career, Hawke mentored Cielo at Auburn University and as a professional. Among the highlights of their time together was Cielo’s gold medal in the 50 freestyle at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, and world-record performances in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle.

In addition to his title in the 50 free, Cielo won a bronze medal in the 100 freestyle in Beijing and earned a bronze medal in the 50 free at the 2012 Games in London. The Brazilian was also the world champion in the 50 freestyle on three consecutive occasions – 2009, 2011 and 2013. World championships in the 50 butterfly were claimed in 2011 and 2013 and a gold was secured in the 100 free in 2009.

Hawke’s interview with Cielo explores numerous topics, including how they met and their days at Auburn. Conversations focusing on mentality, preparing for the Olympics and world-record performances also take place, along with discussion on Popovici and his potential. Cielo took to social media to congratulate the rising teen star after his world-record swim.
