OI Svømming’s Brian Benzing Gives Towson In-State Verbal Commitment
NEW COMMIT: Ellicott City, Md. native Brian Benzing has handed Towson University their first verbal commitment for the Tigers’ class of 2024. He currently resides in Norway.
Primarily a sprint freestyler and breaststroker, Benzing now swims year-round with OI Svømming; he competed for Central Maryland YMCA back in the States. He most recently competed at the Malmsten Swim Open in Stockholm where he finished 18th in the 50m breast and 21st in the 50m fly and also raced at the Bergen Swim Festival and Norwegian LCM Championships. While With Central Maryland YMCA, he raced three events at 2017 YMCA Nationals after recording four best times at Maryland Seniors that same year.
He told Swimming World:
“I’m excited to announce my commitment to swim at Towson University for the Class of 2024. I’d like to thank my friends and family for helping me get to this point.”
In LCM, his best times include:
- 50m free – 24.32
- 100m free – 52.87
- 50m breast – 28.44
- 100m breast – 1:05.34
- 50m fly – 25.03
In SCY, those times convert to:
- 50 free – 21.15
- 100 free – 46.15
- 50 breast – 24.54
- 100 breast – 56.58
- 50 fly – 21.90
When he suits up for the Tigers at the start of the 2020-21 season, he’ll add his talents to training groups that’ll include Ryan Baldino, Cody Stewart and Nick Fitzwilliam. His best time (converted to yards) in the 100 breast is fast enough to score in the B-final at the 2019 CAA Championships where Towson finished fourth overall in the team standings.
