Central Iowa Backstroker Evan Porter Selects Missouri State
NEW COMMIT: West Des Moines, Iowa backstroker Evan Porter has announced his commitment to Missouri State University for the fall of 2019.
Porter does his club swimming with Central Iowa Aquatics and owns the Winter Juniors cut in the 200 back. He placed 12th in the 200m back at Rochester Futures this summer and was the 100 back runner-up at the Iowa LCM Championships. He recorded a pair of best times and had three seconds swims at the Midwest Challenge last winter. Also representing Valley High School, Porter placed third in the 100 back and eighth in the 200 free during his junior season at the Iowa State Championships.
He told Swimming World:
“I chose Missouri State because I was impressed with the coaching staff, and the team made me feel at home. The campus was great and the focus on academics gave me belief that I would be well prepared for life after college. I’m looking forward to joining a tradition of swimming and academic excellence. Bear Up!”
His best times include:
- 100 back – 50.95
- 200 back – 1:49.86
- 200 free – 1:43.18
- 500 free – 4:37.54
When he suits up for the Bears as a member of the class of 2023, Porter will join a talented backstroke group that includes Thomas Heye and Jake Schultz. He would’ve scored in the B-final of both backstroke events at the 2018 MAC Championships where, under head coach Dave Collins, Missouri State earned their 20th conference crown last season.
