Carstyn Klosterman Delivers First 2021 Verbal to Richmond Spiders
NEW COMMIT: Winston-Salem, N.C. native Carstyn Klosterman has handed the University of Richmond their first verbal commitment and will join the Spiders in the fall of 2021.
A talented backstroker and freestyler, Klosterman swims year-round with Northwest North Carolina YMCA Riptyde and earned four best times at YMCA LCM Nationals this past summer where she placed 11th in the 100m free and 13th in the 200m back. Last winter, she raced four events at YMCA SCY Nationals and swam away with a trio of lifetime bests. A current junior at Forsyth Country Day School, Klosterman finished fifth in the 200 free and seventh in the 100 free at the NCISAA 3A State Championships during her freshman season.
Regarding her commitment, she said:
“I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Richmond! I fell in love with the coaches, swimmers, and amazing academic opportunities offered. Go Spiders!!”
Her best times include:
- 100 back – 55.87
- 200 back – 2:02.43
- 100 free – 51.95
- 200 free – 1:50.78
Even with 1.5 years of club swimming still to go before arriving on campus, Klosterman will make an immediate impact both individually and on relays. She would’ve scored in the A-final of the 100 back as well as the B-final of the 200 free and 200 back at the 2019 A-10 Championships where Richmond finished fourth overall in the team standings.
