Carmel Swim Club’s Kayla Barr Verbally Commits to Minnesota
NEW COMMIT: Westfield, Indiana native and Junior National qualifier Kayla Barr has announced her intention to continue her academic and swimming career at the University of Minnesota. She’ll arrive on campus in Fall 2025.
Regarding her commitment, she said:
“I’m thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Minnesota!!! I want to thank my parents, coaches, and teammates for supporting me to achieve this dream. I would also like to thank the Minnesota coaches for providing me with an opportunity of a lifetime!!! GO GOPHERS”
Barr, who trains year-round with Carmel Swim Club, earned best times in all of her events at Indianapolis Sectionals in March where her highest finish was a fifth-place showing in the 200m IM. She also raced four events at Juniors East back in December, again earning all best times.
Her best times include:
- 200 IM – 2:02.66
- 400 IM – 4:21.20
- 100 free – 51.68
- 200 free – 1:53.06
- 100 back – 55.96
- 200 back – 2:01.18
A rising senior at Carmel High School, Barr helped her team clinch its historic 38th straight Indiana High School Girls State Championship title in 2024. There, she won the 4×50 medley relay and 4×100 free relay, also placing fourth in the 200 IM and ninth in the 100 back.
Barr’s top time in the 200 IM would’ve ranked fourth on the Gophers’ squad last year while her 400 IM time and 100 free time would’ve ranked fifth and sixth, respectively.
