Carmel Swim Club Natatorium To Get $600K Upgrade
The Carmel Clay School Board approved a $600,000 upgrade to the Carmel High School Natatorium, according to the Indy Star.
The renovation is set to repair the pool’s roof and improve the ventilation system at the Natatorium. Construction is slated to begin in June and last for just longer than a month.
The changes are expected to be structural and not external as Roger McMichael, the associate superintendent of business affairs at Carmel Clay, has stated that most will not even notice anything was done once the project is complete.
“It will enhance the comfort level in the pool for both the swimmers and spectators,” McMichael told the Indy Star. “Nothing will look different. They won’t notice.”
The ventilation upgrade is something nearly all pools are going through at this time as the sport continues to see participation levels increase. The mixture of chlorine and urine produced can adversely impact the health of those within a facility, and a proper ventilation system is needed to abate the issue.
The upgrade should be in place well before the Carmel girls swim team starts the season that could wind up with a record 31st straight state title.
Coach C.T. Branin Natatorium next to the National Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, too needs some renovation, upgrades, and roof repairs! Built in 1973 by Gibbons Grable Contractors who failed in its construction, had to not only have to dig it up as well fixa leak and repair the tiles before the National Synchronized Swimming Championship in 1974 and the 1976 US Men’s Training Facility (under Doc Councilman, Don Gambril, and all coaches) for Montreal Olympics. It’s flat roof of concrete leaks, the ceiling and walls need painted, and they have had the State of Ohio State Swimming and Diving Championships for over 30 years there as well as various NCAC Conference and NCAA Division III National Championship meets there too. And Carmel, Indiana gets some renovations!!
