Carmel High School Opens New State-of-the-Art Pool (See Images of Spectacular Facility)
Carmel High School recently unveiled its upgraded aquatic complex, a spectacular facility that has already played host to the Greyhounds in competition. The complex serves not only the high school’s high-powered programs, but also the Carmel community, and will be beneficial to a multitude of individuals – athletes, beginners, Masters swimmers, health seekers, etc.
A 50-meter competition pool is the focal point of the facility and offers features that are found in international-level pools. Its addition, combined with previous pool space, will allow a greater number of Carmel community members to use the facility. In addition to the long-course pool, a separate diving well was constructed and will enable Carmel to host not only meets for swimming, but also for diving. According to Carmel Monthly Magazine, a hydrotherapy pool is also available to provide individuals a space for recovery from injury or relaxation.
Enhancements were made to the seating at the natatorium, with the facility now able to accommodate up to 1400 spectators for competitions. There is also a digital record board that will make changing records after they are broken are an easy process.
“If you go back 16-17 years ago, the Carmel Swim Club, which serves as a feeder club for the high school programs, had about 220 kids from entry level all the way up to high school seniors,” Carmel Athletics Director Jim Inskeep told Carmel Monthly. “That (number) has continued to grow and is currently about 500 kids. We had conversations back in 2019-2020 about how we were going to be able to service all of these kids and (swim/dive) programs. We discussed rehabilitating the existing pool and investigated building a new pool that has all of the amenities that we need to run a world-class program, which is what it is.”
