Carmel Girls Shoot Down 15-18 National Age Group Mark in 200 Free Relay
INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana, July 17. IT’s been a busy night for the USA Swimming national age group record books in relays. After Irvine Nova and the Cincinnati Marlins took down their own records on the boys side, the Carmel girls got into the action at the Indiana Senior State Championships.
The foursome of Claire Adams, Veronica Burchill, Amy Bilquist and Rachel Hayden raced to a winning time of 1:42.29 in the 200-meter free relay. Touchpads were not working at the opposite end for actual splits to be posted. But, Carmel head coach Chris Plumb informed Swimming World that the watch times were 25.7, 25.8, 25.7, 24.8 for the record.
That effort thumped the previous 15-18 record of 1:44.37 set by SwimMAC’s Faith Johnson, Maria Sheridan, Maija Roses and Lauren Rhodes a year ago. The foursome of Johnson (25.10), Sheridan (26.86), Roses (26.12) and Rhodes (26.29) posted a 1:44.37 in a time trial swim at the North Carolina State Championships last July to clip the previous mark of 1:44.53 set by Scottsdale Aquatics.
