Cardwell Will Become A Card: Louisville Gets First 2023 Commitment from Olympic Trials Qualifier Summer Cardwell
NEW COMMIT: The University of Louisville has officially entered the 2023 recruiting game, recently snagging their first Class of 2027 verbal commitment from Olympic Trials qualifier Summer Cardwell of Crystal Beach, Florida.
Cardwell does her club swimming with Tampa Bay Aquatics and most recently competed at the Speedo Summer East Championships where she earned bronze in the 200m free with three additional top-14 finishes. She also collected the silver medal in the 800m free at Huntsville Futures this past summer after taking fourth in the 200m free and 11th in the 400m free at Wave I of Olympic Trials.
In SCY, her best times include:
- 200 free – 1:48.40
- 500 free – 4:47.22
- 1000 free – 10:11.30
- 100 fly – 54.24
- 400 IM – 4:24.34
In LCM, her best times include:
- 200m free – 2:00.88
- 400m free – 4:13.69
- 800m free – 8:55.09
- 200m IM – 2:19.53
- 400m IM – 4:58.27
She was also the 200 free champion at March’s Florida Senior Championships before going on to win the 200m/400m free at the 18&U Spring Cup in Orlando back in March. At the Toyota U.S. Open in 2020, she placed ninth in the 400m free and 13th in the 200m free.
Also competing for Countryside High School, Cardwell won the 200 free and was the 100 fly runner-up at the Florida 3A State Championships as a sophomore. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American won both the 100 and 200 free as a freshman.
Cardwell is a great pickup for the Cardinals as she’ll add valuable depth to their IM and freestyle groups. Even with two years to go before arriving on campus, she would’ve ranked third in the 500 free and fifth in the 200 free on their roster last year.
Under head coach Arthur Albiero, Louisville finished third at the 2021 ACC Championships behind Virginia and NC state.
