Canada’s Laon Kim, Junior Pan Pacs Medalist, Commits To Texas For 2026
NEW COMMIT: Freestyler Laon Kim out of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, has announced his verbal commitment to the University of Texas beginning in Fall 2026.
He will join Andrew Maksymowski, Rowan Cox and Austin Carpenter as a member of the Longhorns’ Class of 2030.
Regarding his commitment, he said:
“I am proud to announce my verbal commitment to the University Of Texas. After some careful and thorough consideration, I feel ready to take my athletic and academic career to the next level. I want to thank coaches Carl, Dave, Nick, family and teammates for all the support and guidance. Looking forward to working with @coach_bowman, @erik_posegay, @coachmaida in the future!”
At the 2024 Junior Pan Pacific Championships, Kim eanred silver in the 100m free after turning in a personal best time of 49.37. That was nearly a full second off his best time which came a few weeks earlier at the Canadian Olympic Trials.
Also on his resume is this fun fact: He has broken the Canadian boys’ 13-14 national age group record in every freestyle event, as well as the 400m IM.
