BERKELEY, California, October 15. The talented Cal men’s swimming and diving team, spearheaded by a strong senior class that includes veteran standout Seth Stubblefield, opens its first home dual meet of the year Friday, Oct. 17 versus Hawaii at 1 p.m. at Spieker Aquatics Complex.

Stubblefield has been a stalwart of David Durden’s squad ever since his freshman year. As a freshman in 2012, the Plano, Texas native won an NCAA title as a member of the Golden Bears’ 200 free relay, swimming the anchor leg with a time of 19.00. In 2013, Stubblefield’s 200 medley relay squad was national runners-up. Then last season in his home state (Austin, Texas), he swam the anchor on Cal’s NCAA champion 200 free relay and the freestyle leg on the national title-winning 400 medley relay. Additionally, Stubblefield is a member of the USA National Team in the 50 free.

After the Hawaii meet, the Bears will be competing in a triple-distance exhibition meet at Stanford on Wednesday, Nov. 5 at 2 p.m. at Avery Aquatics Complex. Cal concludes its fall dual meet schedule Friday, Nov. 7 at 1 p.m. at Spieker Aquatics versus Wisconsin.

The Bears will again vie for an NCAA crown in 2015 after winning national championships in 2011, 2012 and 2014 under head coach David Durden. Besides returning defending national champion (100 and 200 backstroke) Ryan Murphy, Cal returns NCAA relay champions Stubblefield, Tyler Messerschmidt, and breaststroker Chuck Katis, among several others who have shined during Pac-12 and NCAA championship competition. The Bears also feature a stellar 2014-15 freshman class.
