Cal Lands Another Huge 2025 Verbal From U.S. National Teamer Claire Weinstein

NEW COMMIT: The University of California, Berkeley has landed another huge verbal commitment for Fall 2025, this time from Claire Weinstein of Las Vegas, Nevada.

Weinstein’s announcement comes a few hours after the Golden Bears landed another top target in Alex Shackell. The two standouts will suit up for Cal’s Class of 2029.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I’m thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to pursue my athletic and academic career at the University of California, Berkeley. I want to thank everyone in my life who has helped make this possible for me, especially Coach Ron, Coach Carle, and my friends and family. GO BEARS!!!! 🐻💙🐻💛🐻💙🐻💛”

Weinstein competed in the 200m free at the 2023 World Championships, finishing 12th overall after making it to the semifinals. The 16-year-old won that event at Phillips 66 Nationals where she also placed third in the 800m free this past summer.

In Summer 2022, Weinstein finished 10th in the 200m free at Worlds.

Back in December, she was the runner-up in the mile at Juniors West in addition to earning bronze in the 100 free, 200 free and 500 free. Weinstein trains year-round with the legendary Sandpipers of Nevada.

In SCY, her best times include:

  • 50 free – 23.00
  • 100 free – 48.76
  • 200 free – 1:43.93
  • 500 free – 4:33.03
  • 1000 free – 9:25.06
  • 1650 free – 15:52.84
  • 400 IM – 4:07.72

In LCM, her best times include:

  • 50m free – 26.16
  • 100m free – 55.07
  • 200m free – 1:55.26
  • 400m free – 4:06.24
  • 800m free – 8:21.00
  • 1500m free – 16:09.85
  • 400m IM – 4:48.06

Weinstein owns the fastest times in the Class of 2025 in the 500/1000/1650 free.

By the time she arrives in Berkeley, Cal will be part of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Weinstein will be an immediate conference and national title contender from the get-go.
