Cal Golden Bears Earn Verbal Commitment from Junior National Finalist Jack Meehan
NEW COMMIT: The University of California, Berkeley has received a new verbal commitment for the 2020-21 season and beyond from Charlotte, N.C. native Jack Meehan.
Meehan, who owns five Summer Nationals standards, swims year-round with the Aquatic Team of Mecklenburg and most recently placed seventh in the 200m IM at Junior Nationals. Last winter, he raced both breaststroke events at Winter Nationals before going on to earn 100% best times at Juniors East.
Also competing for Charlotte Catholic High School, Meehan is a four-time North Carolina 3A State Championship finalist. He won the 200 IM and was the 100 breast runner-up as a junior after finishing seventh in the 100 fly and ninth in the latter during his sophomore season.
He told Swimming World:
“I’m excited to attend Cal in 2020, where I know I’ll receive a world class education and further my athletic career with a great team and amazing coaches. Thank you to my family, friends, and coaches for their support.”
His best times include:
- 100 breast – 55.32
- 200 breast – 2:01.58
- 200 IM – 1:48.06
- 200 free – 1:38.69
- 500 free – 4:27.14
When he suits up for the Golden Bears as a member of the class of 2024, Meehan will add his talents to training groups that’ll be led by Reece Whitley and Sean Grieshop. Meehan has made significant improvements over the past two seasons, dropping five seconds in the 100 breast, nine in the 200 breast/200 free, 11 in the 200 IM, and 18 in the 500 free.
