Cal Earns First 2023 Verbal From In-State U.S. Open Qualifier Kathryn Hazle
NEW COMMIT: The University of California, Berkeley has picked up their first verbal commitment for the 2023-24 season and beyond from in-state standout and U.S. Open qualifier Kathryn Hazle of San Diego, California.
Regarding her commitment, she said:
“Beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at UC Berkeley!! I am so grateful for the opportunity to attend such an incredible university! Thank you so much to my coaches, mom, and nca family! Go Bears!!”
Hazle does her club swimming with North Coast Aquatics and placed fifth in the 800m free and eighth in the 400m free at the Speedo Summer West Championships this past summer after placing sixth in the 100m free at Western Zone Seniors. She also posted five top-10 finishes at the TYR 18&U Spring Cup – Irvine back in the spring.
Her best times include:
- 200 breast – 2:13.26
- 400 IM – 4:14.19
- 200 IM – 2:01.41
- 1000 free – 9:56.41
- 500 free – 4:50.43
- 200 free – 1:49.26
- 100 free – 51.46
Currently a junior at University City High School, Hazle won the 500 free and was the runner-up in the 200 free at the CIF San Diego Section DII Championships as a sophomore. She also swam on the winning 4×50 medley and 4×100 free relays.
She has also earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors for her efforts in the classroom.
