Cal Bears Get Another Big 2026 Verbal From Local Product Tim Wu

NEW COMMIT: The University of California, Berkeley has been on a recruiting tear, recently landing another big verbal pledge for 2026 from local product Tim Wu of San Ramon, Calif.

Wu currently ranks in the top five in the Class of 2026 in the 100 fly, 200 IM, 200 free and 400 IM.

He will join JD Thumann, Baylor Stanton and Aiden Hammer in Berkeley as a member of the Golden Bears’ Class of 2030.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at the University of California, Berkeley! I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to my family for their unwavering support throughout this journey. A special shoutout to my incredible teammates, my training partner Luka, and Coach Steve for constantly pushing me to improve. Lastly, a huge thank you to Coach Dave, Coach Noah, and Coach Josh for giving me the opportunity to join such an amazing team. Go Bears!!”

A versatile swimmer, Wu does his club swimming with Pleasanton Seahawks.

Wu most recently won the 100 fly and 200 free at the CA/NV Speedo Winter Sectional meet last week, which was after he took second in the 18&U 200 IM at Toyota U.S. Open.

His best times include:

  • 100 fly – 47.50
  • 200 fly – 1:47.56
  • 200 IM – 1:47.04
  • 400 IM – 3:52.92
  • 100 free – 44.23
  • 200 free – 1:36.44
  • 500 free – 4:24.09

Currently a junior at Dougherty Valley High School, Wu placed third in the 100 fly and fourth in the 200 IM at the 2024 CIF State Championships. That was a week after he won those events at the CIF North Coast Section Championships.

The Golden Bears finished second at the 2024 NCAA Championships. Cal now competes in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
