Cal Adds Verbal From Futures 100 Back Champion Reed Broaders to Loaded Class of 2025

NEW COMMIT: The University of California, Berkeley has added yet another impressive verbal commitment to their growing class of 2025 from Reed Broaders of Danville, Ill.

She will join Daniela Cogswell, Fanni FabianLea PolonskyAlicia HenryStephanie AkakabotaElizabeth CookMelanie JuliaShelby SuppigerElla MazurekAnnika McEnroeJessica DavisMia Kragh and McKenna Stone as a member of the Golden Bears for the fall of 2021.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am beyond thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of California, Berkeley!! I am extremely thankful for God, my family, coaches, teammates and friends who have supported me throughout this process! GOOO BEARS”

A talented sprinter, Broaders does her club swimming Champaign County YMCA and owns several Junior National standards. She raced to 15th in the 100 back and 16th in the 100 fly at YMCA Nationals in April 2019 and finaled in the latter event at that meet in 2018. Last summer, she won the 100m back at Des Moines Futures where she also took ninth in the 100m fly and 16th in the 50m free.

Her best times include:

  • 50 back – 25.55
  • 100 back – 55.40
  • 100 fly – 54.82
  • 50 free – 23.43
  • 100 free – 52.76

A current senior at University High School Urbana, Broaders is a six-time Illinois State Championship finalist. The two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American placed third in the 100 fly and fifth in the 100 back as a junior while taking seventh and 11th, respectively, in those events during her sophomore season.

Under head coach Teri McKeever, the Golden Bears finished second at the 2020 Pac-12 Championships and were the team runners-up at NCAAs in 2019.
