Caitlin Leverenz Unleashes 400 IM Pan American Games Record in Prelims

USA’s Caitlin Leverenz wasted little time getting the fast swimming going again this morning during the women’s 400-meter IM prelims at the 2015 Pan American Games.
Leverenz unleashed a 4:37.74 this morning during prelims to break the Pan American Games record. Joanne Malar set the previous record with a 4:38.46 16 years ago.
The swim also vaulted Leverenz from 14th in the world with a 4:38.35 from the Arena Pro Swim Series up to 11th in the rankings.
Canada picked up the next two seeds into the A final as Emily Overholt (4:39.84) and Sydney Pickrem (4:40.77) went 1-2 in the second heat. Both have been faster this year with Pickrem ranked 16th in world with a 4:39.26 and Overholt ranked 18th with a 4:39.47.
USA’s Katie Mills (4:41.05), Brazil’s Joanna Maranhao (4:45.28), Argentina’s Virginia Bardach (4:48.96), Mexico’s Natalia Jaspeado (4:51.69) and Mexico’s Moniika Gonzalez-Hermosillo (4:52.24) also will compete in the A final.
Argentina’s Florencia Perotti (4:52.60), Brazil’s Gabrielle Goncalves (4:55.65), Honduras’ Karen Vilorio (5:03.69), Peru’s Andrea Cedron (5:07.00) and Panama’s Maria Far (5:10.85) will swim in the B final.
