The irresistible force that is Caeleb Dressel added a pair of American records to his haul Tuesday at ISL Match 10.

The Cali Condors star won the men’s 100-meter individual medley in 50.48 seconds, an American mark. It erases the time set by Ryan Lochte in Istanbul in 2012 at 50.71.

Dressel was out in 22.96 and came back in 27.52. Both were the quickest splits in the race. He won the race by .88 seconds over Cali Condors teammate Marcin Cieslak, earning a jackpot of 24 points.

It’s also a huge improvement on his best time of the ISL season, which was 51.27. That had been the ISL record in year 1 of it being an event, but it’s moved considerably faster. He’s now almost a second faster than anyone else in the league, with Cieslak (51.36) second and the Tokyo Frog Kings’ Vladimir Morozov (51.46) the only ones within a second of Dressel.

Dressel was denied victory in the 50 butterfly, settling for second behind Aqua Centurions’ Szebasztian Szabo. But Dressel’s time of 22.06 tied the time he went at the Las Vegas finals last year. It’s the second-fastest in ISL this season, trailing only Szabo, whose team is eliminated from contention from the semifinals.

Szabo was chasing the world record of 21.75 seconds set in 2018 set by Nicholas Santos (of Brazil and now Team Iron). He fell nine hundredths short in his final ISL swim of the season, equaling his ISL record.
