The annual Atlanta Classic kicks off this week at Georgia Tech, and while the meet is a regional club meet, there will be plenty of big names competing.
The three-day meet begins Friday.
Olympians Caeleb Dressel, Olivia Smoliga, Hali Flickinger, Chase Kalisz, Gunnar Bentz, Khader Baqlah, Javier Acevedo and Amanda Weir are scheduled to participate.
Another big name on the psych sheet is Dean Farris, who is coming off of a record-breaking performance at the NCAA championships for Harvard.
Other big names include True Sweetser, Fynn Minuth, Erika Brown, Veronica Burchill, Courtney Harnish, Ryan Coetzee, Camden Murphy, Vanessa Pearl, Savanna Faulconer, Emma Barksdale, Meaghan Raab, Robert Finke, Andrew Abruzzo, Natalie Hinds and Sherridon Dressel — just to name a few.
This meet will feature plenty of races between familiar opponents, mostly from Georgia and Florida, but will be one of the top non-national meets in the U.S. this season.
The level of competition in this meet will serve as a good tune-up for many of the top-level swimmers as they gear up for USA nationals or the world championships. The places might not matter to everyone, but the times will show who is on the right track to a strong summer.
