Caeleb Dressel Lowers American Record in 100 Freestyle
Flash! Caeleb Dressel Lowers American Record in 100 Freestyle
The record-breaking show of Caeleb Dressel continues.
One day after he set a pair of world records and an American record on the first day of the International Swimming League Grand Final, Dressel opened Day Two with another standard. Touching the wall in 45.08, Dressel sliced a tenth of a second off his American record of 45.18 in the 100 freestyle, which he set on Saturday. The effort came up shy of beating the world record of 44.94, set in late 2008 by France’s Amaury Leveaux. The Frenchman’s mark is the second-oldest in the record book, trailing only Grant Hackett’s world record in the 800 freestyle from earlier in 2008.
Dressel made a run at the world record in the event during the opening day of the Grand Final, when he registered an American record of 45.18. That swim was the third for Dressel in a 75-minute timeframe, following his world-record outings in the 100 butterfly and 50 freestyle. Roughly 24 hours later, Dressel had the chance to attack the 100 freestyle in a fresh manner, and he got a little bit better.
Providing the Cali Condors with an early boost, Dressel benefited from his typically superb start and went out in 21.75 and came back in 23.33. He was followed to the wall by Frenchman Florent Manaudou of France, who stopped the clock in 46.07 for second place. In an attempt to power the Condors to the ISL championship, Dressel is tackling a five-event schedule at the Duna Arena on Sunday, with the 100 freestyle followed by the 100 individual medley, 50 butterfly and 50 breaststroke skins. He is also slated to compete in the mixed freestyle relay.

I feel certain that if Caeleb Dressel were to swim in one of the banned suits from 2008 he’d skip across the pool like a flat rock.
