Caeleb Dressel Absent for Cali Condors in Final ISL Playoff Match
Caeleb Dressel Absent for Cali Condors in Final ISL Playoff Match (Start Lists)
After returning in time to race in the Cali Condors’ second ISL playoff match last weekend, Caeleb Dressel was again absent this weekend. Dressel was the MVP of last season’s ISL final as the Cali Condors stormed to the league title, but he has had an up-and-down season since he won five gold medals at the Tokyo Olympics. However, Dressel is expected to return for the ISL final (next Friday and Saturday, Dec. 3-4).
Dressel was with the Condors for the beginning of the ISL regular season in Naples, and he looked strong in the two-and-a-half matches that he swam. But when he arrived in Eindhoven during the second week of the playoffs, he swam a limited schedule and was off his season-best times. Last week, in the fourth playoff match, Dressel finished third in the 50 free and won the 100 IM while contributing to the Condors’ relays. Dressel has 12 total individual wins over the course of this ISL season.
Cali had already collected an ISL playoff win, so the Condors are highly likely to advance to the final, barring a huge collapse in this match. Even without Dressel, the Condors will still be heavily favored in the match against the Toronto Titans, the Aqua Centurions and Team Iron on the strength of their impressive women’s contingent. Cali will have Kelsi Dahlia in the 100 fly, Beata Nelson in the 200 back and 200 IM, Lilly King in the 200 breast and 50 breast and Hali Flickinger in the 200 back and 400 free.
