Buffalo Swimming Takes Down McMaster
BUFFALO – The State University of New York, Buffalo men’s and women’s swimming teams posted dominant victories against McMaster at the Alumni Arena Natatorium on Saturday afternoon. The women won, 172-90, while the men won, 161-101.
On the women’s side, Megan Burns, Jessica Powers and Melissa Trail each won two individual events in the meet.
Burns stayed perfect on the season in both the 50 and 100 freestyle. She won the 50 free in a time of 24.07, with teammates Taylor Steffl (24.42) and Even Kosten (24.61) taking second and third, respectively. Burns also won the 100 freestyle with a time of 52.28.
Powers continued to be dominant in the distance freestyle events. She won the 1,000 freestyle in 10:32.34, three seconds ahead of teammate Hannah Miller who finished second. Powers swam a 5:08.58 to win the 500 freestyle. Miller finished second and Saoirse Palu-Benson took third.
Trail won the 100 backstroke in a time of 58.02. She also won the 200 backstroke in 2:06.52. Claudia Casale finished second and Alexis Valedon took third.
Other winners on the women’s side were Spencer Rodriguez in the 200 freestyle (1:56.38), Victoria Butler in the 200 butterfly (2:11.65), Cristina Czyrka in the 200 breaststroke (2:24.96) and Brittney Walters in the 200 individual medley (2:12.34).
The women’s team of Trail, Alexis Valedon, Taylor Steffl and Burns won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:46.15. Trail, Eve Kosten, Steffl and Burns also won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:37.21.
On the men’s side, Matt Bitara and Scott Huang each won multiple events.
Bitara won the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:52.71. The Huntsville, TX native was also victorious in the 200 individual medley, winning by nearly three seconds.
Huang continues to dominate the breaststroke events, winning both the 100 breaststroke (57.47) and 200 breaststroke (2:08.58) on the afternoon.
The Bulls took the top three spots in the men’s 1,000 freestyle. Charles Barry won the race in 9:35.22. Reid Zyniecki took second and Callum Liddiard finished third.
Other winners on the men’s side were Antonio Lanzi in the 200 freestyle (1:43.47), Oliver Patrouch in the 50 freestyle (21.57) and Billy Patrum in the 500 freestyle (4:43.25).
The men’s team also swept the relay races as Jonathan Eka, Huang, Patrouch and Lanzi won the 200 medley relay. Eric Jensen, Eric Forrester, Andrew Cole-Goins and Patrouch were victorious in the 200 freestyle relay.
The Bulls will next compete at the Cleveland State Invitational beginning on November 21.
