On Saturday, the Bureau of the European Swimming League, Ligue Européenne de Natation (LEN) announced its selection of Budapest to host the 2020 European Championships. The LEN unanimously backed Hungary’s event bid.

This news means that Budapest, in 2020, will host the European Water Polo Championships in January, the LEN European Aquatic Championships in May (which includes swimming, diving, synchro and masters) and the open water event in June, which also includes a masters portion.

The Aquatic Championship venue is set to be hosted in the brand new aquatic center, currently under construction for the 2017 World Championships. The venue features two indoor Olympic size pools, a diving well, and an outdoor 50 meter pool. The expected capacity is 5,000.

The Championship Open Water events are slated to be hosted in Lake Balaton, the largest lake in Central Europe.
