Buckeyes Secure Pair of Verbals from Mackenzie DeWitt, Teresa Ivan for 2021-22 Season

NEW COMMITS: The Ohio State University has collected two verbal commitments for the 2021-22 season and beyond from Hudson, Ohio native Mackenzie DeWitt and Teresa Ivan of Charlotte, N.C.

Both swimmers will join Malia RauschMairin O’BrienPaige Hall and Gwen Woodbury with the Buckeyes as a member of the class of 2025.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I’m beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at THE Ohio State University!! Thank you to my family, friends, and coaches for their endless support through this whole process. GO BUCKS!!!”

Primarily a freestyler and backstroker, DeWitt does her club swimming with Hudson Explorer Aquatic Team and owns a pair of Junior National standards. She raced four events at Juniors East in December and earned three gold medals at the Lake Erie Championships last short course season. This past summer, she finaled at Geneva Futures and competed at Junior Nationals.

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 23.06
  • 100 free – 51.23
  • 50 back – 26.69
  • 100 back – 56.53
  • 200 back – 2:05.78

Also competing for Hudson High School, DeWitt is a four-time Ohio State Championship finalist. The NISCA and USA Swimming Scholastic All-American finished fifth in the 50 free and seventh in the 100 fly as a junior while earning bronze in the former event during her sophomore season and took fourth in that race as a freshman.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am so incredibly excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at The Ohio State University! I chose Ohio State because of their amazing academics and team atmosphere. This school is truly unique from all the others and I could never be more happier to call this place home for the next four years! Thank you to all my family, friends, teammates and coaches who supported me throughout this process. GO BUCKS!!”

Also a talented freestyler and backstroker, Ivan has achieved five Junior National (or faster) cuts and swims year-round with the Aquatic Team Of Mecklenburg. She most recently registered four top-3 finishes at North Carolina Seniors after notching a trio of best times at Juniors East. Last summer, she took sixth in the 200m back at North Carolina LCM Seniors before going on to take ninth in the 50m free at Greensboro Futures.

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 22.86
  • 100 free – 49.49
  • 200 free – 1:49.29
  • 100 back – 55.23
  • 200 back – 2:00.44

A current junior at Ardrey Kell High School, Ivan is a four-time North Carolina 4A State Championship finalist. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American grabbed gold in the 100 free and silver in the 50 free as a junior while racing to 12th and 13th, respectively, in those events during her sophomore season.
