Buckeyes Earn In-State Verbal Commitment from Distance Freestyler Charlie Clark
NEW COMMIT: The Ohio State University has received a new in-state verbal commitment for the 2020-21 season and beyond from Sandusky, Ohio native Charlie Clark.
A talented freestyler who gets faster as the distance gets longer, Clark swims year-round with Vacationland Swim Club and owns three Summer Juniors standards. He most recently competed at Cleveland Sectionals where he won the 800m/1500m free combo after placing third in both events at Indianapolis Sectionals in March. At Juniors East in December, he recorded a best time in the mile and had three top-15 finishes at Rochester Futures last summer.
Also competing for Perkins High School, Clark is a four-time Ohio State Championship finalist and has earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors. He was the 500 free runner-up and took fourth in the 200 free as a junior after finishing fifth and 13th, respectively, in those events during his sophomore season.
He told Swimming World:
“I am very excited to announce my verbal commitment to The Ohio State University! I chose OSU because of the coaching staff, the team atmosphere, and the vision they have for the program! GO BUCKS!!”
His best times include:
- 500 free – 4:30.74
- 1000 free – 9:24.52
- 1650 free – 15:43.60
When he suits up for the Buckeyes as a member of the class of 2024, Clark will add valuable distance depth to a training group that’ll be led by Carson Burt. Although he’s not in scoring range just yet at the Big Ten Championships, he has continuously made improvements each season with a year to go before arriving on campus.
