Bruno Fratus Returns to Training After Three-Month Hiatus Following Should Surgery
One of the world’s premier sprinters, Brazilian Bruno Fratus took to social media on Wednesday to announce he has returned to the water after three months. Fratus underwent a third shoulder surgery in August and will now start the process of returning to peak form, with the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris as his main target.
The 33-year-old was the bronze medalist in the 50-meter freestyle at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo and medaled at three consecutive editions of the World Championships from 2015-2019. Fratus was the bronze medalist in the 50 freestyle at the 2015 World Champs and claimed silver medals in 2017 and 2019. At last summer’s FINA World Champs, despite his impending surgery, Fratus just missed the final of the 50 free when he was edged in a swimoff by Frenchman Maxime Grousset, 21.59 to 21.62.
Fratus’ consistency has been a defining trademark of his career, along with his ability to rise to the occasion at elite events. In addition to earning medals in the 50 freestyle at the Olympics and World Championships, Fratus was the gold medalist in the event at the 2014 Pan Pacific Championships. Fratus boasts a personal best of 21.27 in the one-lap sprint, an effort that makes him the No. 10 performer of all-time.
Dear Swimming Twitter, after 3 months out I'm back in the water today. Thought I'd share the news with my swimfam here.
