Brooks Curry Dials Up Trio Of Swift Times For LSU, Including 1:34.27 Mark in 200 Freestyle
A gold medalist for his preliminary contribution to the United States’ victorious 400-meter freestyle relay at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Brooks Curry turned in a strong showing on Friday night during Louisiana State’s Southeastern Conference dual meet with Alabama. The Tigers’ go-to performer registered wins in the 50-yard freestyle, 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle.
It was in the 200 freestyle where Curry shined brightest, as he posted a time of 1:34.27 while competing in a training brief. A quick time at this early point in the season suggests a big campaign ahead for Curry, who won the 50 free in 19.95 and covered the 100 free in 43.98. Curry had three top-three finishes in the 50 free, 100 free and 200 free at last year’s SEC Champs. Curry was also the seventh-place finisher in the 100 freestyle at the NCAA Champs.
During his Olympic debut, Curry handled the leadoff leg of the 400 freestyle relay in the prelim heats. Curry checked in with a time of 48.84 and was awarded a gold medal when the United States topped the field in the final.
