Brooklynn Snodgrass Withdraws from Canadian Trials Due to Illness
Brooklynn Snodgrass, a bronze medalist at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, likely just watched her long course season be destroyed by an illness that forced her to withdraw from Canadian Trials in Toronto.
Snodgrass, a backstroke specialist who had a career year in 2014 that included an NCAA title for the Indiana Hoosiers in the 200-yard backstroke, was the top seed in the women’s 100-meter back today but did not swim.
After the scratch, news broke that Snodgrass would miss the entire meet in Toronto due to an undisclosed illness and had not even made the trip.
Her chances at scoring an international trip this summer for Team Canada took a hit. Swimming Canada told Swimming World that her only shot would be if a backstroke position still wound up being open after Trials. She could then filed for a discretionary nomination based on a 2014 time.
That’s unlikely considering women’s backstroke is one of the deepest events in all of Canada right now.
Swimming World has reached out to Indiana public relations for a quote from Snodgrass, but Snodgrass has yet to get back to IU.
Sending hope for a speedy recovery.
What a shame! I hate when this stuff happens. Hope she’s well fast!
