British Trials, Day 6 Prelims: Angharad Evans Rattles British 100 Breast Record; Anna Hopkin Leads Eva Okaro & Freya Anderson In 100 Free
Angharad Evans came within 0.06 of the British 100m breaststroke record during the final prelims session of the British trials in London.
Freya Anderson made her first appearance of the six-day meet to qualify third for the 100 free final behind Anna Hopkin and Eva Okaro.
Women’s 800m Freestyle
The three slowest heats were topped by Cait Cotter in 9:00.96 with the first eight women home all born between 2006 and 2009.
Cotter was followed by Phoebe Arbuckle (9:01.65) and Emilia John (9:03.43).
Abbie Roscoe (9:04.52), Ava Cook (9:04.81), Alice Forrest (9:06.72), Ruby Griffiths (9:07.04) and Lucy Parsons (9:09.18) comprised the top eight.
Women’s 100m Breaststroke
Angharad Evans came within 0.06 of Molly Renshaw‘s British record as she posted 1:06.27, splitting 30.82/35.45.
Renshaw posted the national standard of 1:06.21 in the semis of the European Championships in 2021.
Also through: Kara Hanlon (1:07.11), Imogen Clark (1:08.84), Sienna Robinson (1:08.93), Elizabeth Booker (1:09.33), Anna Morgan (1:09.46), Amy Crowley (1:09.48) and Leah Schlosshan (1:09.78)
There were no qualifiers from the women’s 200 breast so the winner of the two-length event should well be set for Paris.
Women’s 100m Freestyle
While Anderson’s potential involvement commanded the spotlight, Anna Hopkin dominated in the pool, going 53.68 in the penultimate heat.
While Hopkin, the 50 free winner, was the only woman to go inside the 54 barrier, Eva Okaro was the sole swimmer on 54, posting 54.60.
Anderson was third through in 55.01, making her first appearance at the trials as she continues her journey back following a glandular fever diagnosis.
The Bath Performance Centre swimmer went 55.01 in the final prelim to go into the final in third.
Also through: Isabella Hindley (55.12), Abbie Wood (55.34), Lucy Hope (55.40), Freya Colbert (55.44) and Evelyn Davis (55.51)
