British Trials, Day 5 Finals: Toby Robinson Dominates 800 Free for Eight-Second Victory

Toby Robinson dominated the 800 free to claim a clear victory although he didn’t add a pool swim to his open water programme come Paris 2024.

The Loughborough-based swimmer came home in 7:51.51, a four-second PB but 3.63secs outside the time of 7:47.88 that would have earned him nomination for the event at the Olympics.

Tyler Melbourne-Smith, the double Commonwealth Youth Games champion and a swimmer of immense promise, was second in 7:59.59, 0.12 ahead of Reece Grady who clocked 7:59.71.

Alexander Sargeant was fourth in 8:03.91 followed by Luke Hornsey (8:06.24), Joseph Deighan (8:10.78), Thomas Trebilcock (8:11.67) and Sean McCann (8:12.21).
