British Trials, Day 4 Prelims: Katie Shanahan Returns In 200 Back
The fourth day of prelims featured the women’s 400 free and 200 back at the Aquatics Centre in London.
Katie Shanahan returned to the water the morning after claiming silver in the 400IM in a PB inside the cut for Paris 2024.
Leah Crisp and Amelie Blocksidge booked the centre lanes for the 400 free, an event in which Great Britain has a fine track record including the likes of Becky Adlington, Joanne Jackson and Jazz Carlin.

Women’s 400m Freestyle
Leah Crisp – already on Team GB in the open water – headed the prelims in 4:15.16 ahead of 14-year-old Amelie Blocksidge who already has one senior title to her name this week in the 1500.
The City of Salford swimmer clocked 4:15.37 to book lane five alongside Crisp.
Also through: Lucy Fox (4:16.43), Holly Hibbott (4:16.54), Michaella Glenister (4:17.28), Megan Barnes (4:17.38), Fleur Lewis (4:17.51) and Jemima Hall (4:19.52).
Women’s 200m Backstroke
The heats took place without Medi Harris although the Welshwoman has booked her spot on the team in the 4×2.
Honey Osrin posted the leading time in the seventh heat, going 2:10.25, before Shanahan took her place in the final prelim.
The European silver medallist took the lead on the second 50 but it was her University of Stirling team-mate Holly McGill who got the touch in 2:12.12 to 2:12.30.
Osrin was swiftest into the final by almost three seconds ahead of McGill and Shanahan with fellow Stirling swimmer and 100 winner Kathleen Dawson fourth through in 2:13.07.
