British Trials, Day 3 Prelims: Katie Shanahan Books Lane Four In 400IM; Anna Hopkin On Song In 50 Free
Katie Shanahan and Freya Colbert will go head to head in the final of the 400m individual medley after the pair booked the centre lanes at the British trials.
Anna Hopkin went inside the cut for Paris 2024 in the 50 free but must reproduce that in Thursday’s final as Eva Okaro and Skye Carter – with plentiful European junior medals between them – also made the final.

Women’s 400IM
Commonwealth bronze medallist Katie Shanahan dominated the seventh and penultimate heat and held an eight-second lead at halfway before the University of Stirling swimmer came home in 4:44.25.
Colbert, who won the title at the 2024 worlds in Doha, took the final heat in 4:48.39 with the pair the only women inside 4:50.
Beatrice Varley was third through in 4:52.32 ahead of Michaella Glenister in 4:53.53 followed by Holly Robinson (4:53.80) and Suzie McNair (4:53.91).
Amelie Blocksidge returned the morning after retaining her 1500 free title to reach her second senior final of the six-day meet, the 14-year-old clocking 4:55.10 with Anna Farrow claiming the eighth and final spot in 4:56.54.
Women’s 50m Freestyle
Hopkin was in a class of her own as she clocked 24.59, a time inside the Paris cut although the Olympic mixed medley relay champion needs to make the QT in the final.
Isabella Hindley was 0.66 slower in booking lane five in 25.25 with Eva Okaro, the 2021 European junior bronze medallist, next through in 25.44.
Erin Little (25.81) and Clementine Lovel (25.82) were fourth and fifth with Darcy Revitt, Skye Carter and Katie Goodburn all posting 25.87 to reach the decider.
