British Trials, Day 2 Finals: Amelie Blocksidge Retains Senior 1500 Free Title At 14
Amelie Blocksidge may only be 14 but she is the national 1500 free champion twice over after retaining her title at the Aquatics GB Swimming Championships in London.
The teenager, who swims for City of Salford, dominated throughout to get the gold in 16mins 13.39secs in the fastest heat to open the evening session.
That was outside her PB of 16:09 and well shy of the 16:01.95 cut for Paris.
She said:
“It means a lot. I was really nervous before the race: it was only pressure I was putting on myself, there’s not really much pressure everybody else is putting on me.
“But I am really glad to regain my title.”
She added:
“As I was going in first this time, it is a lot of pressure because you never know what can happen in the race.”
Although Blocksidge didn’t book a Paris spot, she was quick to share her dream goal, saying:
“To get to the Olympics one day and hopefully medal some time in the future.”
Fleur Lewis was second in 16:17.36 ahead of Lucie Hanquet (16:35.92).
The next fastest times were posted by Michaella Glenister (16:40.43), Ella Dyson (16:46.97), Hollie Wilson (16:47.93), Lucy Fox (16:55.08) and Amber Keegan (17:04.18).
