British Swimming Federation’s Lauren Wetherell Verbally Commits to Lady Vols for 2021
NEW COMMIT: The Lady Vols have landed their fifth early verbal commitment for the class of 2025 from Lauren Wetherell of Market Drayton, Great Britain. She’ll arrive in Knoxville for the start of the 2021-22 season along with Summer Eaker, Josephine Fuller, Summer Smith and Asia Minnes.
Wetherell swims year-round with Ellesmere College Titans and also represents the British Swimming Federation. She most recently placed eighth in the 800m free at the LEN European Junior Championships in July after earning gold in the 400m free at the Scottish National Age Group Championships. At the Scottish National Open in 2018, she was the runner-up in the 1500m free and earned seven best times.
She told Swimming World:
“I am very excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my swimming and academic career at the University of Tennessee. I am looking forward to being part of the Lady Vol family! Thank you to my family, friends and coaches who have helped and supported me on my journey. GO VOLS”
In LCM, her best times include:
- 200m free – 2:04.36
- 400m free – 4:18.74
- 800m free – 8:49.91
- 1500m free – 17:24.84
In SCY, those times convert to:
- 200 free – 1:49.93
- 500 free – 4:47.71
- 1000 free – 9:58.79
- 1650 free – 17:09.16
Wetherell is a great addition to the Lady Vols’ growing class of 2025 as her best time in the 500 free (converted to yards) is just shy of scoring range at the SEC Championships. With just under two years of club swimming still to go before arriving at Rocky Top in the fall of 2021, Wetherell will surely continue to improve and will become a valuable asset to Tennessee’s distance group.
