British Championships, Day 5 Heats: Lewis Burras Goes 21.95 In 50 Free & Matt Richards Hits 22.21 Welsh Record
Lewis Burras was the only man inside 22secs and Matt Richards went 22.21 for a Welsh record in the 50 freestyle prelims on day five of the British Championships in Sheffield.

Women’s 50m Backstroke
Medi Harris – winner of the 100 back – heads the 50 field in 28.27 ahead of Lauren Cox (28.63) and Blythe Kinsman (28.74).
Men’s 50m Freestyle; Qualification Time, 21.57; Consideration Time, 21.85; British Record, 21.11
Burras – winner of the 100 – led the way with Richards going 22.21 to lower his PB and Welsh record while world, European and Commonwealth champion Ben Proud executed a controlled swim in 22.33.
Proud hasn’t been beaten in a long-course pool in international waters since the Tokyo Olympics.
The cut-off point was 22.74.
Women’s 400m Free: QT, 4:02.16; CT, 4:04.92; British Record, 4:00.60
Freya Colbert has already booked her place on the British team for Fukuoka worlds with her winning performance in the 400IM.
The Loughborough Performance Centre swimmer also won the 800 free and got silver in the 200 back behind Katie Shanahan on Friday night.
On Saturday, the 19-year-old booked lane four for the final in 4:15.38, 0.01 ahead of Shannon Stott (4:15.39) with Leah Crisp next through in 14:15.71.
Amelie Blocksidge – the 13-year-old who won silver in the 800 – was fifth through in 4:16.87.
Men’s 200IM: QT, 1:56.22; CT, 1:57.61; British Record, 1:55.28
Tom Dean – the Olympic 200 free champion – was the only man to post a sub-2min time in 1:59.90 ahead of Joe Litchfield (2:00.25) and Tokyo silver medallist and British record-holder Duncan Scott (2:01.31).
Women’s 200IM: QT, 2:10.22; CT, 2:10.98; British Record, 2:06.88
Abbie Wood – fourth in Tokyo – heads the field in 2:12.54 with Leah Schlossan booking lane five in 2:13.17.
Katie Shanahan has posted consideration times in the 400IM and 200 back and she was fifth into the final in 2:16.35.
