British Age Group Record Holder Angharad Evans Verbally Commits to Georgia Bulldogs
NEW COMMIT: Breaststroker Angharad Evans of Sheffield, England has announced her verbal commitment to the University of Georgia beginning in the fall of 2021.
She will arrive in Athens as a member of the class of 2025 along with Ava Kennedy, Briana Roberson, Hailey Galbraith, Duné Coetzee, Mia Abruzzo, Lily Gardner, Mary Martin, Elsa Fretz and Rachel Stege.
She told Swimming World:
“I am so proud to announce my verbal commitment to UGA. My decision was based not only on the success and talent of the team, but also on how supportive and welcoming the whole bulldog family is. I am super excited to meet everyone and become part of this family! Go Dawgs!”
While representing Team England, Evans most recently earned bronze in the 50m breast and placed fifth in the 100m breast at the FFN Golden Tour Camille Muffat Step 1 meet in February where she achieved 100% best times. At the LEN European Junior Championships in 2018, she finished 10th in the 100m breast and 11th in the 50m breast.
Evans, who trains year-round with West Suffolk Swimming Club, owns the British Age Group Record in both the 50m and 100m breast for 13-year-olds.
In LCM, her best times include:
- 50m breast – 31.63
- 100m breast – 1:09.26
- 200m breast – 2:33.40
In SCY, those times convert to:
- 50 breast – 27.73
- 100 breast – 1:00.94
- 200 breast – 2:16.21
Evans will add valuable depth to the Bulldogs’ breaststroke group next year both individually and on medley relays. Her best time (converted to yards) would’ve scored in the B-final of the 100 breast at the 2020 SEC Championships where Georgia finished fourth overall in the team standings.
