Breeja Larson Adds Second Win At Argentina Nationals

The 2018 Argentina National Championships have been underway this week in Cenard, Argentina, with swimmers competing for spots for the South American Championships.

Robert Strelkov opened the meet with a new national record in the men’s 50 fly, hitting the wall in a time of 23.82 to take the event and break the old record. Two-time Olympian Federico Grabich also just narrowly missed his own national record in the men’s 200 free, touching the wall in 1:47.56 to just miss his record by .17.

Strelkov followed up his 50 fly win with another one in the 100, touching first in 53.27. He also hit a South American Games qualifying time in the prelims of the men’s 50 free, touching in 22.75 as the fastest qualifier before scratching at night to focus on the 100 fly. Guido Buscaglia would end up winning the men’s 50 at night in 22.53 to also clear the South American Games cut.

American Breeja Larson has also gotten in on some racing and collected two wins so far during the meet. She collected a win in the 50 breaststroke on the first day of the meet, narrowly beating out Macarena Ceballos 31.64 to 31.94. She followed that up with a win on the third day of the meet in the 200 breast, taking the race unchallenged in a 2:31.04 with Ceballos having been disqualified in the prelims of the event.
