Breaststroker Theresa Milio Verbally Commits to Navy for 2020
NEW COMMIT: Scarsdale, N.Y. native and current high school junior Theresa Milio has verbally committed to the U.S. Naval Academy as a member of the class of 2024 and will join Maya Novack and Hannah Pratt next fall.
Milio, who owns the U.S. Open standard in the 100 breast with the Winter Juniors cut in the 200 breast, does her club swimming with NYS Aquatics, Inc. and recently took seventh in the 100 breast at Ithaca Speedo Sectionals. She raced three events at Juniors East in December and recorded a pair of best times at the Metropolitan SCY Winter Championships in February. This past summer, she earned bronze in the 100m breast at Metropolitan Seniors before going on to race that event at Junior Nationals.
Also competing for Edgemont High School, Milio is a four-time New York Federation State Championship finalist. She raced to third place in the 100 breast and 10th in the 50 free as a junior after placing fifth in the former event as well as 13th in the 200 IM during her freshman season. She has also earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors for her efforts.
She told Swimming World:
“So excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at the United States Naval Academy! Go Navy!”
Her best times include:
- 100 breast – 1:02.08
- 200 breast – 2:17.78
- 200 IM – 2:05.77
- 100 back – 56.96
- 50 free – 23.88
Milio will be a valuable asset in both individual events and medley relays when she arrives on campus at the start of the 2020-21 season. She would’ve scored in the A-final of both breaststroke events as well as the B-final of the 200 IM at the 2019 Patriot League Championships where Navy won their eighth-straight team title.
