Texas Ford Aquatics’ Rachel Ramey will be bringing her breaststroke talents to the University of Florida beginning with the 2017-2018 season.
Ramey’s best times are:
- 100/200 Breast: 1:01.78/2:11.30
- 200 IM: 2:04.50
The high school senior has been on a quick improvement. She’s knocked six seconds off her best 200 in the past year and brought her best 100 time down from a 1:04.06 in 2015. She carried that into long course, where Ramey was the runner up in the 200 breaststroke at this summer’s Speedo Junior Nationals. She was also a finalist in the 100 breaststroke.
The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American is the defending Texas 5A State Champion and record holder in the 100 breaststroke. That finish followed a second place showing in the 2014 4A meet. Swimming for Heritage High School in Frisco, Texas, she was also third in the 200 IM last year.
Ramey will also have scoring ability in the deep SEC Conference and fill a breaststroke gap in the Gator lineup. At last season’s meet, she would have been at the top of the C final in the 100 breaststroke. Sophomore Paige Scheriger (1:03.06) was the Gators’ only swimmer in the event. In the longer distance, Ramey’s best time would place her at the top of the B final, once again leading the way for the Gators. Florida finished tenth of twelve teams in last year’s 400 medley relay. Freshman Hannah Burns provided a 1:04.25 breaststroke leg, suggesting Ramey has great relay potential when she arrives in Gainesville next fall.
