Breaststroker Olivia Masterson Verbally Commits to Wisconsin for 2020-21 Season
NEW COMMIT: Iowa City, Iowa breaststroker and current high school junior Olivia Masterson has announced her verbal commitment to the University of Wisonsin – Madison as a member of the class of 2024.
Masterson swims year-round with Iowa Flyers Swim Club and owns the U.S. Open cut in the 100m breast with the Winter Juniors cut in the 200 breast. She placed 17th in the 100 breast at Juniors West in a new personal best time in December and achieved four lifetime bests at NCSAs last March. The NISCA and USA Swimming Scholastic All-American capped off her summer long course season by finishing second in the 50m breast, fourth in the 100m breast and 15th in the 200m breast at NCSAs. While representing Iowa City High School, Masterson raced to third in the 100 breast and fourth in the 200 IM at the 2018 Iowa State Championships.
She told Swimming World:
“I’m excited to remain in the Midwest to continue my swimming career at the University of Wisconsin. I can’t wait to work with the amazing coaching staff and team that immediately made me feel at home. So thankful for the coaches and teammates who have helped me reach this point! On Wisconsin!!”
Her best times include:
- 50 breast – 28.86
- 100 breast – 1:02.37
- 200 breast – 2:19.12
- 200 IM – 2:05.01
Although she’s not in scoring range quite yet at the Big Ten Championships, Masterson has made continuous improvements each season with 1.5 years of club swimming still to go before suiting up for the Badgers. Over the past three seasons, she has dropped four seconds in her 100 breast and five seconds in her 200 breast.
