Breaststroker Joe Brennan Will Stay In State With Commitment to Manhattan College
NEW COMMIT: Manhattan College has picked up a new commitment for the 2021-22 season and beyond from in-state breaststroker Joe Brennan of Howard Beach, N.Y.
He told Swimming World:
“Super excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career as a D1 Athlete at Manhattan College. Huge thanks to my parents and all of the people that supported me along the years. Can’t wait to spend the next 4 years surrounded by an amazing team. GO JASPERS”
Brennam who does his club swimming with the Cross Island YMCA Barracudas, finished seventh in the 100 breast and 10th in the 200 breast back in January at the BRY Winterfest Invitational. Last December, he posted a pair of top-12 finishes at the CIY Holiday Invite.
In 2019, he was a three-time finalist at the New York State YMCA Swimming Championships before going on to race the 100 breast at the YMCA SCY National Championships.
His best times include:
- 50 breast – 26.88
- 100 breast – 58.22
- 200 breast – 2:12.73
- 200 IM – 2:01.70
- 50 free – 21.99
- 100 free – 49.34
Also competing for Archbishop Molloy High School, Brennan has competed at the New York Federation Championships the last two years. He finished ninth in the 100 breast as a junior while taking 31st in that event during his sophomore season.
Brennan will make an immediate impact as a member of the Class of 2025 as he would’ve been Manhattan’s second-fastest 100 breaststroker last season. Under head coach Patrick Malone, the Jaspers finished 10th at the 2020 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships.
