Breaststroker Jason Mathews Stays Close to Home With Verbal Commit to Ohio State
NEW COMMIT: Jason Mathews has verbally committed to swim for Ohio State University next fall. When Mathews becomes a Buckeye next fall he’ll be in very familiar territory. Mathews swims for Ohio State Swim Club. Current club teammates Benjamin Kuriger and Hudson McDaniel have also verbally committed to the Buckeyes.
Mathews’ academic environment won’t change much either. He explained to Swimming World,
“I am registered with Westerville North High School, but I attend classes full-time at the Ohio State University through the College Credit Plus program that allows me to attend college in lieu of high school. I have been attending college classes on college campus since my sophomore year. It is a cool program that gives me college credit for my courses and completes my high school requirements at the same time.”
On his decision to spend his collegiate years at Ohio State Mathews said,
“Excited to officially announce my verbal commitment to The Ohio State University! So thankful for family & friends who have been a part of this journey”
His best SCY times include:
- 200 breast – 1:59.26
- 100 breast – 54.42
- 50 breast – 25.19
- 200 IM – 1:50.79
Mathews is a three time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American as well as a two time NISCA All-American.
In addition to this OSSC trio, Ohio State also has verbal commitments from Lain Weaver and RJ Kondalski.
