Breaststroker Holley Dennis Announces 2020 Verbal to Minnesota Gophers
NEW COMMIT: Highlands Ranch, Colorado native and current high school junior Holley Dennis has verbally committed to the University of Minnesota for the fall of 2020.
Dennis does her club swimming with University of Denver Hilltoppers and owns the U.S. Open standard in the 100 breast with the Winter Nationals cut in the 200 breast. She most recently competed at Federal Way Speedo Sectionals where her highest finish was a ninth-place showing in the 200 breast after recording a best time at Juniors West in December. This past summer, she competed in both breaststroke events at Junior Nationals.
A school record-holder at Mountain Vista High School, Dennis is a four-time Colorado 5A State Championship finalist. She placed sixth in the 100 breast and ninth in the 50 free as a sophomore after taking fifth and 14th, respectively, in those events during her rookie campaign. She has also earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors for her efforts.
She told Swimming World:
“The biggest reason I choose Minnesota was I felt at home there and I connected very well with the team. I just clicked with everyone there including the coaches. The culture of both the team and the school seems to be one that I can’t help but be successful in!”
Her best times include:
- 50 breast – 30.56
- 100 breast – 1:02.31
- 200 breast – 2:15.56
- 100 fly – 55.47
When she suits up for the Gophers as a member of the class of 2024, Dennis will add valuable depth to their breaststroke training group. She would’ve scored in the C-final of the 200 breast at the 2019 Big Ten Championships where Minnesota finished fourth overall in the team standings.
