The Vissering family will have two swimmers in Division I schools starting next fall, as Alex Vissering made a verbal commitment to be an Indiana Hoosier.
“I am very excited to be able to commit to Indiana University,” Vissering said. “I enjoyed interacting with the team on my official visit and loved the campus and the academic opportunities at IU. Most of all, I really appreciate Ray Looze and his staff seeing potential in me and giving me a chance with a spot on the team next year.”
Alex’s older brother, national junior team member Carsten Vissering, is a freshman at the University of Southern California. Both are talented breaststrokers, with Alex qualifying for junior nationals in the 100 breast.
Alex Vissering posted a lifetime best 57.56 at last March’s NCSA championships. At the summer long course NCSA championships, he posted a lifetime best 1:07.01, which placed him 18th overall.
Vissering represents Nation’s Capital Swim Club for USA Swimming meets. While swimming for Walt Whitman High School, Vissering placed sixth in the 100 breast at the 2015 DC Metro championships with a 58.38. He was the Maryland state champion in the 100 breast in the 4A/3A meet a month after DC Metros with a 58.87.
