Breaststroke/IMers Patrick Daly, Gavin Jones Announce Verbal Commitments to Denison

NEW COMMITS: Denison University has picked up a pair of new verbal commitments for the 2021-22 season and beyond from from New Albany, Ohio native Patrick Daly and Gavin Jones of Bellingham, Wash.

Both talented swimmers will join Lucas Conrads, Tyler Distenfeld, and Elijah Venos as members of the Big Red’s class of 2025.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I’m very excited to announce that I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at Denison University! I would like to thank my family, friends, coaches, and teammates for helping me get to this point! I’d also like to thank Coach Parini and Coach Kellen for giving me this opportunity! #gobigred”

Daly, who trains with New Albany Aquatic Club, had a pair of top-5 finishes at the Ned Reeb Invitational in December and raced five events at NCSAs in March 2019. He finished eighth in the 50m breast and 10th in the 200m breast/200m IM at Ohio LCM Seniors last long course season.

His best times include:

  • 50 breast – 27.14
  • 100 breast – 58.71
  • 200 breast – 2:08.87
  • 200 IM – 1:52.15

Also competing for New Albany High School, Daly finished 15th in the 200 IM at the Ohio State Championships during his junior campaign. He also took seventh in that event as well as 10th in the 100 breast at the D1 District Championship meet in 2020.

He told Swimming World:

“I’m stoked to announce my commitment to swim and study at Denison University! I’d like to give a HUGE thank you to my teammates, friends, family, and coaches for helping me along the way! I look forward to being a part of such an awesome team and going after some national titles! #gobigred”

Jones swims year-round with Bellingham Bay Swim Team and earned best times in all three breaststroke events at Juniors West in December. He raced to 10th in the 200 breast and 11th in the 100 breast at Pacific Northwest Seniors in December and took fourth in the 200 breast at TYR Junior Nationals in March 2019.

His best times include:

  • 50 breast – 27.40
  • 100 breast – 57.93
  • 200 breast – 2:02.92
  • 200 IM – 1:57.01

Last summer, he recorded six best times at Pacific Northwest LCM Seniors where he finished seventh in the 200m breast and 11th in the 100m breast. Jones is currently a senior at Bellingham High School where he holds a 4.0 GPA and has earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors. He has been swimming with BBST for nine years.
