Borochovski, Lisogor Shine at Jerusalem Cup

JERUSALEM, December 6. VERED Borochovski with her 27.38 in the 50m fly and Ukraine's Oleg Lisogor with his Israeli open record 27.46 in the 50m breast, won awards for the highest quality swims at the Jerusalem Cup, held here December 2-4 at the 25 meter pool in the Israeli capital.

In spite of the political situation and security tensions, four of Ukraine's best swimmers attended the competition and will stay an additional week to train here in preparation for the European Short Course Championships in Germany in a week's time.

Other results:

Yana Klochkova won the 100 back in 1:02.75, exactly half a second ahead of Ania Gostamelsti of Israel.

In a major upset, Borochovski beat Klochkova in the 100 I.M., 1:03.37, to 1:04.41.

Klochkova won the 200 I.M in 2:17.02, and the 400 I.M. in 4:50.22.

Lisogor who together with Klochkova arrived in the morning of the meet flying directly from Shanghai, where they competed at the World Cup meet, won the 100 meter breast in 1:00.88, ahead of former University of Minnesota swimmer Dov Melnik, 1:04.03.

Olga Mokomul, Ukraine's best sprinter won both the 50 and the 100 free. In the 50 she clocked 26.30 ahead of Gostamelski's 26.96. In the 100, it was Mokomul in 57.16, followed by Gostamelski, 57.63, and Borochovski, 57.86.

Yoav Gath, former U. of Georgia swimmer was the outstanding Israeli male swimmer with his 1:58.03 in the 200 back. He also won the 100 back in 56.00.

Israel's Miki Halika won the 400 IM in 4:20.70.

Svetlana Bondarenko of Ukraine took the 100 breast in 1:12.14, with Borochovski second in 1:13.40.

The men's sprint freestyle events were both won by Israeli swimmers: Manzola won the 50 in 23.70, with Offer Finkler second in 24.00; Penn State-bound
Finkler reversed that order in the 100, 52.15 to 52.20
Eighteen year-old Shai Livnat won the 200 in 1:52.22.
