Boise State swimming picked up a victory against Idaho in a two-day dual meet.

Boise State Press Release:

Boise State kept its roll going Saturday, capturing numerous event victories to claim a 185-148 season-opening win over Idaho at the Boise West YMCA.

The Broncos will return to action in three weeks, traveling to Utah for a pair of meets during Halloween weekend. Boise State will compete against host Utah and Florida Gulf Coast on Oct. 30 before heading to Provo to face BYU the next day.

“This gives the girls a lot of confidence in how they’ve been training, we’ve been pushing them pretty hard in the water. To have success this early in the season is a good thing,” said Bronco head coach Jeremy Kipp. “We did a really good job of competing, they raced really hard. Sometimes if a meet’s one-sided, it’s really easy to let up or not give your best effort, so our girls gave a really good, honest effort.

“To see the freshmen, and [dual-meet swimming] is part of their education, for them to rise up to the challenge and take it on was really good. It’s only going to help them when we get to conference,” Kipp added about the performance of the Bronco freshmen.

Kacee Olson finished off her sweep of the diving events, capturing the 3-meter event Saturday with a score of 243.27, a day after winning the 1-meter event. Karli Kriewall (237.07) and Kiley Carlson (227.77) finished third and fourth, respectively, to score for Boise State.

Brittany Aoyama captured four wins Saturday, turning in the top time in the 100 fly and being part of three winning relays (200 MR, 200 FR, 400 FR). Senior Sam Wicks and sophomore Emma Chard earned three wins apiece.

The trio teamed up with Katelyn Martin to open the session with a win in the 200 medley relay, touching first in 1:44.40. The next Bronco quartet, made up of freshmen Allyson Kleinsorgen, Laura Williams, Mandy Barnes and Abbey Sorensen, took second in 1:47.37.

Chard (4:33.26) and Emily Mathis (4:34.33) went 1-2 in the 400 IM, followed by a 1-2-3 effort in the 200 free from (in order) Felicity Cann (1:5
2.44), Blake Balogh (1:53.62) and Cody Evans (1:55.68).

Maryann Kok picked up a win for Idaho in the 100 breast, turning in a time of 1:06.21, edging Williams by just 0.32 of a second. Boise State got a win back in the next event, the 100 back, as Wicks touched first in 56.32 to lead a top-four sweep by the Broncos. Kleinsorgen (58.51), Sorensen (58.85) and Taylor Padington (1:00.36) rounded out the top four.

Aoyama, Martin, Sorensen and Cann led the way in the 200 free relay, clocking a 1:34.55 and being followed by the quartet of Wicks, Kleinsorgen, Chard and Evans (1:35.82).

Although the Broncos didn’t score its swimmers over the final six events, Bronco swimmers turned in the fastest times. Balogh touched first in the 1,000 free (10:20.03), Wicks (2:04.63) took the 200 back, Aoyama (51.66) was first in the 100 free, Williams (2:20.74) touched first in the 200 breast, Mandy Barnes (2:08.74) took the 200 fly and the quartet of Chard, Kleinsorgen, Aoyama and Martin finished the meet victorious in the 400 free relay.
